This design has been shaped by centuries for traditional bamboo work in Bali. It is designed to split bamboo, whittle along the grain, carve round holes and precise fish-mouth joinery. We’ve kept that heritage intact while modifying it to serve as a daily workhorse for bamboo carpentry, and we made it with a solid iron bamboo handle!
The blade is hand-forged using upcycled truck leaf spring steel—renowned for its strength.
Each tool is assembled in our Bamboo Master workshop, pairing the steel with a solid bamboo handle and a heavy stainless steel ferrule.
Knife Features & Function

Asymmetric Blade: One side is flat for shaving straight along the grain. The other side is curved for scooping out round holes and carving tight fish-mouth joints.

Thick Spine: Heavy enough to smack the back of the blade to split bamboo.

Solid Tang Assembly: Built ultra-strong so you can twist the blade inside a cut to split bamboo open with a flick of the wrist.

Thumb & Finger Cutouts: Includes an index finger cutout at the bolster for choke-up control and a flat spine area for your helping-hand thumb to press forward on joinery cuts.

Solid Bamboo Handle: Stout Iron Bamboo handle fitted with a stainless steel ferrule to prevent collar splitting under heavy leverage.

Small (~11" total): For fine shaving, detailed joinery, basket ware and shaping round holes.

High-carbon leaf spring steel is alive. It will rust on the surface, but that oxidized layer is the steel protecting itself from deeper damage—not a defect. As you work with it, oil it, and handle it over time, the blade and bamboo burnish into a rich, dark finish that reflects every project you build together.
